The team is getting ready for the 1st home meet coming up Sept 6th (info here) - great to set time goals for the upcoming months, and assemble some relay groups for the upcoming away meets. "The first few weeks of practice we have been really stressing with the swimmers the importance of good streamlines off the wall with a fast dolphin kick" Coach Jenny said between practices. "These videos show how important it really is. Take a look at them and make sure you work on it during practice." Great underwater work can cut valuble seconds off your competing times!
Coach Jenny has also been running tons of fun drills, including 6 kick switch, zipper, catch up, and the Minnesota drill. Ask your swimmers about these drills so they can share what they've been working on.
What are these hallway shenanigans? Pictured at right, team members found an interesting place for the ASA magnets and this fleeting art installation provided a fun activity before practice began.
Other fun team activites included the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Ice Bucket Challenge. Nominated by Coach Owen's water polo team, team members completed the challenge and nominated Atlanta Swim Academy VP Brad, Head Coach Jenny, and ASA administration to participate. You can see both #icebucketchallenge videos on the ASA Team facebook.
You can also see the facility engineers Trent, Collin and Brian's ice video on the main Atlanta Swim Academy facebook.
Don't forget, you can already sign up for the GA Tech SCAT Fall Invite away meet- the first away meet of the season! While other kids are getting ready for pools to close, your season has just begun. Go team!!
Yesterday we finished up the final practice of the Long Course season. We had a very successful summer this year. Over the course of the long course season, 42 different team records were broken! Some of them broken several times. CONGRATULATIONS! The hard work in the pool paid off.
Congratulations again to our Long Course State Qualifiers: Ryan Bitter, Avi Daftari, Keegan Ford, Patrick Johnson, Daniel Liu, Eric Lieberman, Joe McLeer, Gabriela Pellegrini and Jace Thompson. We had some really fast swims at state. Finishing in the TOP 10 was Jace who finished 6th in the 50 back, 8th in the 100 back, and 8th in the 200IM. Way to go Jace!!
It is now time to switch gears and get back to swimming short course (25yrds). Practices for the school year begin Monday, August 11th. We will have Meet & Greets on Tuesday August 5 and Friday August 8th from 5-7pm. Also Saturday August 9th from 10am-12pm. You can attend any of those days/times to pick up your packet and be fitted for your team suit. It's important that we get everyone measured so we can order our new suits. The coaches will also be here to say hi. We are all excited for the next season.
Stephanie drew the winners of the free 1hr private give away today, visit the team facebook page if you haven't seen who the winners are yet! Stay tuned for more raffle opportunities throughout the upcoming year.
See you at the pool!
This past Friday was the last day of practice for swim team's 2013-14 short course season! The coaches had a great time seeing all of you improving throughout the past year. The end of the season awards ceremony saw lots of you taking home medals, trophies and certificates for your hard work and various accomplishments. We posted photos from that night on Swim Team's exclusive new facebook page, and encourage you to share yours as well!
Over summer, most of you are transitioning to either Long Course or Stroke School. These started Tuesday 5/27, but you can join anytime. Long Course and Stroke School continues through July 26th.
For those of you who are instead taking a summer vacation, may it be filled with swimming and barbeques! Hope to see you next season for 2014-15 Swim Team or SwimFIT Club, both starting August 11th. Going into next season, we've also added a new opt in for real-time text message updates, from meet time changes, to weather closings or cancelled practices, you'd get a convenient text from ASA straight to your phone. To opt on, text ASAswimteam to 67076. This service is completely optional, and you can cease it anytime by texting STOP to the same number.
We also added a twitter account for ASA- if any of you tweet, come follow us!
For those of you who missed the banquet, we wanted to reiterate the final tally from the Swim-a-Thon: the team raised $10,878 for Sunshine on a Ranney Day! Ta and Alissa were so excited, and everyone is invited to their room makeover reveal June 21st at 4pm. More details will email out soon. Sunshine on a Ranney Day has photos and shoutouts about the Swim-A-Thon & Awards Ceremony on their facebook page wall with some really sweet comments from their page's fans. East Cobber also posted a blog about your amazing hard work.
Thanks again for a wonderful year and many happy memories. Though school is out, the summer solstice officially begins June 21st for all you weather-philes out there! Have a great Memorial Day holiday.

With all that hard work, we've got a well deserved break coming up March 29th through April 6th for Spring Break. There will be no swim during those Saturday/Sundays that we're closed, but we will have modified practice times for Monday-Friday if you're not traveling:
- Red 4:15-5:00pm
- White 4:15-5:15pm
- Green 5:15-6:00pm
- Blue & Gold 6:15-7:45pm
Regular practices begin again Monday April 7th! Have a great weekend, and lots of fun over Spring Break!
This week is the official beginning of our Charity Swim-A-Thon Fundraiser! We're already getting RSVP's, it's so exciting! This is a USA Swimming sanctioned event, happening right here at ASA Saturday May 3rd during your regularly scheduled team practice times. Instead of regular practice though, you'll be swimming laps. All you have to do to participate is grab a pledge form in the main hall, rsvp your intent to swim on the clipboard by 4/18, collect donations, and then swim May 3rd! If you're not on swim team but want to be involved, come see us at the front desk to make a donation and sponsor swim team as a whole. For any Business Sponsors out there donating $100+, your logo and website will be featured on SOARD and ASA websites, social media, and emails!
100% of donations you collect will go directly to Sunshine on a Ranney Day (SOARD), a 501(c)(3) non-profit IRS registered charity that creates dream room makeovers for children with long term disabilities or illness. Founded in 2012 by Holly and Peter Ranney, they rely on donations to get the job done and all contributions are tax deductible. In addition to helping this amazing charity out, you could win exciting incentive fundraising prize packages from Swim-A-Thon sponsors Speedo, Aqua Sphere, USA Swimming, and ASA including 3 overall top collector prizes: 3rd overall receives a Speedo Aquabeat Underwater MP3 Player; 2nd overall receives a GoPRO Hero 3; 1st overall is awarded your own Ipad Mini! If you're unable to swim May 3rd due to other plans or travel, you can still participate in the fundraising and incentive prizes.
Participants will all be receiving a free commemorative t-shirt if they're swimming May 3rd! We also have a separate Swim-a-Thon t-shirt for sale for those who still want a shirt, available through Booster.com! It features SOARD's mascot Gracie, donning swim fins in honor of the Swim-a-Thon.
We'll have Channel 2 News and Sunshine on a Ranney Day representatives joining us May 3rd, as well as the family your funds raised will directly help! Ta, an 8yr old swimming enthusiast with cerebral palsy, and his sister Alissa will be cheering you on as you swim your laps. Their room renovations are scheduled to begin in May, and all Swim-a-Thon participants will be invited on location for the televised room reveal in June, with the top donation collector being invited to actually walk through the house with Ta and Alissa. Participants, you're also welcome to contribute room makeover ideas for Ta and Alissa's makeover. They both love swimming, so think of some fun swim themed ideas! If your design idea is chosen by Sunshine on a Ranney Day to be incorporated in their room, you'll win a Speedo Aquabeat and also be invited to walk through the room during the televised reveal to see your design! Speedo has already donated some cool autographed memorabilia from Olympic athletes for display in Ta & Alissa's new dream room!
Come root on swim team Saturday May 3rd, 9am-3pm! Mark your calendars, it's going to be a super fun day!
Here are the results for the 14 and Under Age Group State meet at GA Tech. Shout outs from Coach Bob to Gabriela Pellegrini, Joey McCleer and Jace Thompson, all finishing in the Top 20 in their events. Also Keegan Ford, who became the first ASA swimmer to win a medal at the short course championships, placing 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke!
ASA will be completely closed March 29th/30th, and April 5th/6th for Spring Break.
Spring Break week 3/31-4/4, we'll have a modified practice schedule:
- Red 4:15-5:00
- White 4:15-5:15
- Green 5:15-6:00
- Blue and Gold 6:15-7:45
Of course, that week we also have the Spring Break single-purchase private lesson specials going on too. Have a great time at the Lanier Pentathlon this Saturday!
We'd like to show recognition to our Swimmers of the Month for always displaying great attitudes and improvement through their hard work:
- Madeline Halloran for her dedication and 2 great January meet performances
- Ron Tulchinsky for his hard work and great improvement
- Allan Hegedus for IMX Completion and advancement to Gold Team
- Keegan Ford for his outstanding 400 IM Record
We've also had some great cap achievements, including Matthew Pappalardo, Owen Haygood and Keegan Ford collecting the Orange cap for their record setting accomplishments. 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Alyssa Anderson visited ASA on February 9th for a surprise meeting with Red and White swim practices. She presented several swimmers with their motivational caps, and posed for photos.
We hope you've been enjoying the Winter Olympics and getting motivated toward following your own goals! Keep you eye on the calendar so you don't miss the upcoming meet opportunities, because Long Course Summer Team isn't that far away! We'll have 2 level options, the requirements for that team are:
- Long Course Level 1 Must have achieved either an ASA Motivational or US Swimming Time Standard in a ≥50 yard event; Set an ASA Record in a ≥50 yard event; or completed IMX or IMReady.
- Long Course Level 2 Must have achieved either a USA Swimming Motivational Time Standard; Set an ASA Record; or completed IMX Challenge.
We'll also have Summer Stroke School starting in May, which has a flexible practice package plan similar to a visit pass system, that will keep you in shape and continue to refine your skills for the return of the Short Course Season.
Have a great week everyone! See you poolside.

The Psych Sheet for the Rays Coaches Invite Meet is now available!
A psych sheet is a list of each event of a swim meet, with all the swimmers entered ranked based on entry times (or “seed times”). ASA looks very strong in this meet. I have spent some time looking at the psych sheet, let me give you some exciting details:
Congratulations at the Marlins Holiday Invitational!
Fifty-eight of our swimmers competed in the Marlins Invite last weekend and we finished third. Ten of our swimmers took home high point trophies in their age group. There were 15 new ASA records set by our swimmers, and almost all swimmers had at least one personal best time.
Good luck at the Candy Cane meet tomorrow!
We're having a lot of fun this season! We wanted to take a moment to recognize the trophy winners from the past Trick or Treat away meet. Every year Georgia Swimming will select a list of all star swimmers based on overall performance and achievements at the past season's Short Course State Meet. The swimmers that are selected for this team will represent the State of Georgia at the Zone Meet which this year will take place in Greenville, South Carolina from July 29th - August 3rd. Coach Alexis is one of the Coaches that has been selected to act as an assistant coach for the Zone team. This is the first time an ASA coach has been a member of the coaching staff, and will hopefully set the stage for ASA coaches and swimmers to be involved with this team in the future.
Also congratulations to our swimmers this season that collected all 5 motivational caps (ASA Record, IMX, State QT, Sectional QT & Swimmer of the Month).
Emma Dolson, Clare Bufford, Julia Keith, Evan Garrison and Sterling Ralph.
