What an awesome month of swimming by all of our swimmers. The 2 poster boards full of Best Times names from the Northern Divisionals Championship is proof that everyone has really improved throughout the season. All of the coaches were super proud of all our swimmers. We loved having so many swimmers qualify for finals in the older groups. Even Coach Owen got in the action on Sunday night in the 50 free. We broke 17 ASA team records! Several were broken more than one time when the swimmer went faster in finals. Way to Go!! We've got more pictures from our Championship Meet on the team facebook.
Congratulations also to Maya Kahn who swam in the CanAm Games in Toronto, Canada. Maya swam 6 events and made finals in all of them. She placed third in her 200 IM and 100 Back. Awesome job Maya!!!
April 25 & 26: SCAT Long Course Kick Off @ GA Tech
Deadline: Noon, Tuesday, April 14. Register Online
That's right, Long Course meets have officially begun! Swimming long course isn't as scary as everyone wants to think it is. All that long course means is that swimmers are swimming in a 50 meter pool ( ASA's pool 3 is 25 yards). This is the same length of pool you see swimmers swimming in at the Olympics. Actually our first meet is in the 1996 Olympic Pool at Georgia Tech. Times are different because they are swimming longer but some swimmers love long course because there are less turns. We can't wait to get the meets going.
Going into Summer, let's make sure we're eating right! Coach Owen found this great USA Swimming article on 5 Bad Eating Habits Swimmers Must Break for you. Are you not eating enough, or eating something that is slowing you down?
This season has been the most fun yet, and we plan on closing out the short course season with a Team Party on May 2nd! Instead of doing another home meet, we'll just get together for some fun swim and food with teammates. More information to follow.
Modified Practice times over spring break are posted on the web calendar.
Summer schedule starts May 26th! It is beneficial to keep training in the summer so you don't feel like you're starting all over again in August. Register Online
We'll close with this awesome video about the PanAm Games happening in Toronto this Summer. A reminder to everyone: Don't let anything hold you back from following your passion! Be the great athlete you were meant to be!
Great job at the Rays IMX Meet everybody! Coach Jenny says there were 48 new motivational standards. We've got the Marlins Invite coming up Dec 12-14, and the Candy Cane Dec 20th.
Practice hard over the next few weeks, and remember we've got a modified practice schedule over the holiday week: Monday 11/24 through Wednesday 11/26 are the special holiday hours, and Thursday 11/27 through Sunday 11/30 ASA is completely closed.
If you're out of town during the holiday and have access to a pool, make sure your swimmer gets in and swims. If you don't have access to a pool, a good run or hike every day will help keep them in shape! At this point in the season, having a whole inactive week from swimming is like missing two weeks of running for a runner! Don't lose your edge before these meets ahead.
I guess no matter how good a swimmer you are, there are just some places you won't be allowed to swim! Coach Owen ran into just that predicament at Amicalola Falls. It would've been too cold anyway Owen! Meanwhile this past week, Shelly and Coach Meg had fun running the Luminate 5k.
Share your pics from meets, and the ways you're staying active during the cold months on Instagram, #atlantaswimacademy! Get inspired and stay in shape!
We also have some fun news about the Dec. 6th Underwater Tree Lighting- we'll have Santa Claus and his Polar Bear helper joining us! Bring your underwater cameras, and parents- plan on getting in the water to decorate the tree too if you can! Nothing like decorating an underwater tree together, what a great photo opportunity. We'll provide holiday cookies and eggnog in the main hall, but make sure to bring lots of canned goods to benefit Marietta's MUST Ministries Canned Food Drive (Santa is watching...)! All festivities are 5-7pm, we're looking forward to seeing everybody.
The team is getting ready for the 1st home meet Sept 6th (info here) - great to set time goals for the upcoming months, and assemble some relay groups for the upcoming away meets. "The first few weeks of practice we have been really stressing with the swimmers the importance of good streamlines off the wall with a fast dolphin kick" Coach Jenny said between practices."
Yesterday we finished up the final practice of the Long Course season. We had a very successful summer this year. Over the course of the long course season, 42 different team records were broken! Some of them broken several times. CONGRATULATIONS! The hard work in the pool paid off.
